#45: Holiday Baking
I used to think my baking needed to be done in the few days leading up to our Christmas celebration. I’m not sure where the thought came from, but as I got older, I realized there had to be a better way. I found it, and it involved my freezer.
You can avoid stress by doing your baking in early November. Most cookies freeze well and baking early saves time for other things. One of my favorites to freeze is sugar cookies. I hold off on frosting them until they’re thawed. I store them in flat, stackable storage containers or shirt boxes. My family also loves Party Mix, and I usually make this in October and freeze it in ice cream buckets.
If you don’t have additional freezer space, here are a couple options:
- Clean out the freezer portion of your refrigerator. You may be surprised at the amount of mystery items you come across that can be discarded.
- If you live in a cold climate, use the outdoors. One friend of mine uses a storage bin with tight fitting lid for her goodies. She either sets it just outside her back door or on her balcony.
Take the stress out of the holiday season by ordering “Frosting Bows and Bags Under My Eye’s.” This Audio CD and 40-page companion guide of Audrey’s popular holiday workshop reveals simple techniques on preparing for the hectic holidays before they arrive.
