Start. Stop. Keep.

By: Audrey Thomas

In most of the training we deliver at Organized Audrey, we end with an exercise called Start, Stop, Keep. We ask participants to reflect on what they’ve learned and to answer three questions:

  1. What is something I want to START doing differently?
  2. What is something I know I need to STOP doing?
  3. What is something I should KEEP doing that is working well for me?

This exercise can be helpful if you’ve ever had one of those moments–at work or at home–when you’ve thought, something’s gotta give!

Think about an area in your life or work that’s important to run smoothly, with little stress or chaos. Here are some examples:

  • Invoicing your clients or following up on sales leads in a timely way
  • Conducting performance reviews for your team
  • Getting the kids out the door in the morning–on time, without tears!
  • Prioritizing self-care: exercising, getting enough sleep, eating healthy
  • Meeting financial goals: saving for retirement, keeping a budget, paying down debt

When you’re in a good frame of mind (i.e. low level of frustration), do an honest evaluation. Identify things that ARE going well. Then consider what may need tweaking or letting go. If needed, seek out a trusted individual who can speak honestly to your situation.

Don’t forget to jot down your intentions–writing down new goals often results in greater success. The smallest steps can yield the biggest results.

Here’s to starting. And stopping. And keeping!
